When
I wrote this, I was at a stall (warung) waiting for my order. The kids love
fried Siakap and that was exactly what I was waiting for. The business was okay
I guess, coz quite a number of people came here often, including me. However, I did not intend to talk about this stall. Instead I would like to share with you my
experience with the stall next to it. Well, the other stall which sells roti
canai and a few types of rice opens only in the morning. Actually, I had once
gone through a not so pleasant experience with the owner. However, it did not
stop me from coming. Guess, simply because the husband made very yummy
roti canai.
The day before was one of the days when I felt like buying just fried chicken. So, I went to the stall and packed 5 pieces of fried chickens myself and waited for my turn to pay.
The wife then noticed me and asked, “ How many nasi do you want ? ” I said, “None, only fried chicken. ” Then came the hurtful
remarks. “ Cikgu, we don’t sell fried chicken without nasi coz we are not
selling just lauk pauk. We don’t want
the rice to be wasted if there are not enough fried chickens to go along with
it. How many are you buying ? 5 ? Ok, but actually we don’t sell it this
way. ” She said those words without even looking at me. The expression on her
face was enough to tell me that she also
meant to say, " Have I made myself clear ? " Her words left me
feeling stupid and I stood there for
some time looking at her not knowing what to say. I did glance around me once and saw that most of the customers
were looking at me. The next thing I did was to put back 2 pieces and paid for only three. Then, I left the stall feeling like I had just been
jilted and slapped in the face by someone.. actually, humiliated
would be the right word.
Talking
about rezeki Allah swt.. Maybe it didn’t cross her mind that it is not just
about hard work..but also to be kind to the people around you, to work with the
right niyah; lillahi taala. Or maybe I
was just being too sensitive…kut..
